03 · Who is it for

Often, the cat gift is chosen by someone who loves a cat person

A couple in their thirties, a Korean man and a white woman, sitting on a sofa with a blanket over their legs only, a calico cat stretched across their laps, both smiling at the cat (woman in the He Takes My Side of the Sofa tee in Orchid; man in the Kneads a Blanket tee in Navy)

04 · From the windowsill

Things even cat people may not know

01

The slow blink

A slow blink from a cat is a friendly signal. A 2020 study found cats were more likely to approach a stranger who slow-blinked back at them.

02

The meow is for us

Adult cats rarely meow at one another. Kittens meow to their mothers, and grown cats keep the habit mostly for the people they live with.

03

Kneading

Kneading starts in the first days of life, when kittens press against their mother to nurse. Grown cats keep it for the softest laps and blankets.

04

Head bunting

When a cat bumps its head against you, it leaves scent from glands on its cheeks. You have been marked as part of the household.

05

No sweet tooth

Cats cannot taste sweetness: the gene for the sweet receptor does not work in cats. They are tuned for meat, not sugar.

06

Almost always female

The orange and black patches of a calico depend on two X chromosomes, so nearly every calico or tortoiseshell cat is female.

A quiet living room at night, one warm lamp, a cat silhouetted on the windowsill looking out at city lights, deep violet blue tones, lots of dark empty space on the left

The best gifts are the ones that say: I know your life.

BONYTA.GIFT · JOY OF CATS & LIFE

05 · Why we exist

A real cat started this

Bonyta is a real cat, and this store carries her name. Her people wanted a place where loving a cat is treated as one of the good things in life, not a joke at anyone’s expense.

So every design starts with something a cat actually does: the slow blink across the room, the box that beats the present inside it, the chair that stopped being yours the day the cat sat in it. A cat person reads one and smiles, because it is exactly their life.

That is where our line comes from: Joy of Cats & Life.
